Although just 1.5% of the West Bank population, Christian-run organisations provide 37% of all health, education and social care needs. 90% of those they serve are non-Christian and many communities would not survive without them. Yet we’ve found that many UK Catholics are unaware of their existence.
Like many concerned about the future of Israel/Palestine, we also believe a thriving Palestinian Christian community is essential for any just and lasting peace. When we ask our friends in Jerusalem and the West Bank how Catholics in the UK can best support them – their answer is unanimous and clear:
“Come Back as Pilgrims to the Holy Land!”
Pilgrims of Hope for the Holy Land has built strong relationships with Christian communities in the Holy Land and now runs an online platform listing UK pilgrimages, guesthouses, resources and contacts.
Through their online community, people in the UK can meet Palestinian Christians, learn about their lives, and join in prayer and worship via live-streamed events from the Holy Land. This allows those unable to travel to still show their support.
You can get involved by finding or organising a pilgrimage, promoting your group’s pilgrimage, buying produce from local communities, or connecting with people in the Holy Land to learn about their faith and challenges.
