Action is the antidote to despair

RAMA – Refugee, Asylum & Migrant Action (Refugee Action – Colchester) CIC is registered in England & Wales, company number: 10920710

Who We Are

RAMA is a voluntary organisation offering non-judgemental, practical support to refugees, asylum seekers and individuals facing severe vulnerability. We help people navigate the challenges of arriving in a new town and tackle the inequalities they face when accessing essential services.

We work to reduce destitution and homelessness, filling gaps in statutory provision and advocating for those who are often overlooked. Through strong partnerships with local agencies and community organisations, we create lasting, meaningful change.

As an IAA registered organisation, we can now provide regulated advice for Home Office applications, including those related to Domestic Abuse and cases where individuals have no recourse to public funds.

Our immigration advice service

RAMA is a not-for-profit organisation with limited funding. We support people who cannot afford paid immigration advice. As demand for our service is very high, we currently have a waiting list. To make sure help reaches those who need it most urgently, we prioritise clients who are facing destitution or serious financial hardship. Thank you for your understanding.

Local Giving

The vital support we offer to refugees and asylum seekers depends entirely on the generosity of our donors. Quite simply, the more funds we receive, the more people we can help in a community where support is urgently needed.

All contributions are greatly appreciated and can be made through our Local Giving page, by cheque, internet banking, or standing order.

Student Placements

RAMA offers placement opportunities for university students for up to 90 days as part of their work experience. In recent years, we have welcomed students from Social Care (BA and MA), Migration Studies (MA), and Refugee Care (MA) programmes.

These placements benefit both sides: students gain direct experience working with our clients, while we learn from their academic perspectives. Students also take back valuable insights into the specific needs of refugees and asylum seekers, enriching their studies and future professional practice.
