This month, for our Organisation Good News we are featuring the remarkable work of Rainham Foodbank, a charity whose commitment to compassion and practical support continues to transform lives across the Rainham area.

Founded in 2011 by a local church, Rainham Foodbank has grown in response to increasing community need. What began as food distribution has become a support network staffed by over 100 volunteers and 13 employees, driven by a shared belief in tackling the root causes of hardship.

Guided by the words of Desmond Tutu: “There comes a point where we need to stop just pulling people out of the river. We need to go upstream and find out why they’re falling in.” Rainham Foodbank has spent the last 15 years evolving from emergency food provision. Today, they offer an inspiring range of More Than Food services designed to offer support and help people rebuild their lives with confidence.

These services include:

  • Sewing and skills-building programmes
  • Befriending services
  • Counselling
  • Warm spaces and breakfast clubs
  • Employability and housing support
  • Financial inclusion, advocacy and advice

At the heart of their work is their collaboration and partnership with churches, schools, supermarkets, Waltham International College, businesses and countless local volunteers. All of them form a community network that ensures people get help and have opportunities to flourish.
