World Day for Migrants & Refugees 2026
This week, we joined the Jesuit Refugee Service UK, St Vincent de Paul Society England & Wales, Caritas Social Action Network and Caritas Plymouth to hand in hundreds of postcards petitioning the Prime Minister to defend asylum.
This was our chance to stand in solidarity with migrants and refugees at a time when so many are living in fear and facing violence.
We are very grateful to our young adult volunteer supporters who joined us, one shared:
“It’s important as Christians to support this campaign because it is living out the message that Jesus gives to us, which is to love our neighbour…Jesus himself was a refugee. He sought a new home because of danger, and God willing, we hope that if any of us were in a similar situation, we would be able to find solace and safety in another country as well.”

‘Even just one of these children’ is the theme for Pope Leo XIV’s message for the 112th World Day of Migrants and Refugees, which takes place on Sunday 27th September.
He calls us to reflect on the experiences that young migrants and refugees go through, and to avoid making calculations but instead to see the inherent dignity of each child and person.

Outlines what Catholic social teaching says about migration and a catholic approach to solidarity with migrants and refugees.
Highlights the urgent problems facing migrants and refugees – with a particular focus on children – in our communities as a result of increasing hostility and proposed changes to policies and laws.
Invites Catholics to take action – individually, in their churches, and at the institutional level – to stand alongside children and all those on the move in order to build a more dignified life for themselves and their families.
