Across our Diocese, the cry of the poor still resonates in a multitude of forms. It echoes through the streets where the homeless seek shelter from the cold, in the strain of households stretched thin by the rising cost of living, and in the quiet voices of refugees still waiting, still hoping, within the temporary walls of hotel rooms.
Pope Leo XIV reminds us this year that the Lord himself is the refuge of the poor. If God chooses to dwell among those who have the least, then our own doors, our own tables, and our own hearts must do the same. As members of this Diocese, we are called not only to hear this cry but to become that refuge: to respond with practical support, build bridges of empathy, and foster a community where the marginalised find not just solace, but a true and lasting home.
