This July, St John Bosco Children’s Camp made its return to Walsingham House at Abbotswick, offering a week-long camping holiday for children aged 9-12.

Organised by Caritas Diocese of Brentwood, Bosco Camp is a special initiative designed for children who might not otherwise have the opportunity to enjoy a Summer holiday. Set in a supportive and faith-filled Catholic environment, the camp gives children the chance to have fun, grow in confidence and deepen their faith. Each day includes Mass, outdoor camping, excursions across South Essex and a wide range of activities such as: games, tournaments, arts and crafts, and more.

This year, the camp was supported by an incredible team of 72 volunteers aged 17-77. Of this number, 15 were junior helpers and 27 were first-time volunteers. All of them brought energy, compassion and dedication to the experience.

Bishop of Brentwood, Alan Williams, and Siân Thomas-Cullinan (Director, Caritas Brentwood) had an opportunity to visit the camp. On their visit, they spent time speaking with some of the volunteers, witnessing the joy and community spirit that Bosco Camp fosters.

The children enjoyed a variety of exciting outings, including sailing and canoeing at the Royal London Docks, aqua park adventures and fishing in Benfleet, as well as swimming in Chigwell. Back at Walsingham House, they took part in football tournaments, athletics, arts and crafts, film nights, and even a talent contest. There was something for everyone.

As the week came to a close, the children left with new experiences, new skills, and most importantly: new friendships.

Caritas Diocese of Brentwood extends heartfelt thanks to St John Bosco Camp for its commitment to creating such joyful memories for young people.
